Hello love! Welcome to a new week. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to check out my blog and I hope you learn one or two things and possibly subscribe so you keep coming back for more π
For my first post, I really wanted to keep it simple and fun so I decided to share with you my favourite beauty hacks which I have learnt over the years. On a daily basis, there are different tricks being introduced to the beauty world. While some are just ridiculous (for example, using a tomato to blend your foundation, really sis?) others actually work flawlessly. Continue reading if you’re curious about what these hacks are!
1. POWDER BEFORE FOUNDATION ROUTINE
As the president of the oily skin gang, I am always on the look out for products and tips that would help me control the amount of oil my skin produces and when I saw YouTubers rave about this particular technique, I knew I had to try it out. This particular hack has to be one of my favourites for 2017 as I have tested and it worked perfectly for me.
It involves using a translucent powder to set your primer (or bare skin if you do not use a primer) before applying your foundation. The powder instantly “mattifies” your skin thereby making your foundation last longer than it normally would. If you haven’t heard of this before and you want to see how it works, you can watch another beauty blogger, Dimma Umeh’s video HERE
2. TURN A PENCIL EYELINER INTO A GEL FORMULA USING HEAT
This is another trick I used a lot when I started out makeup for the first time. If you do not have a gel eyeliner and you need one quickly, simply use a match or lighter close to the tip of the pencil.
The heat melts the pencil and you can immediately smudge that on your eyes or where ever you want to use it. I usually used this as a base for my smokey eye makeup look. However, the pigmentation may not be as good as a normal gel eyeliner but it is a good alternative till you get the gel one.
3. DIY SKIN EXFOLIATING SCRUB
Male or female, I recommend exfoliating at least once a week if you do not already as it is a a good way of getting rid of dead skin cells, cleaning out your pores and making your skin glow. There are a lot of good skin scrubs out there but if you are frugal like me, you can always make yours at home using available ingredients.
My best DIY skin scrub consists of just sugar and honey. Simply mix these two together (do not forget to crush your sugar if it is in a solid form) to form a thick paste but be sure to wet your skin first before applying the mixture in a circular motion. I do this two to three times before rinsing off with cold water and the results are instant!
4. PETROLEUM JELLY + EYESHADOW PIGMENT= CUSTOM LIP STICK
Say hello to a wide variety of lip sticks! With this hack, you could always be daring and try out different shades of colours on your lips that you do not readily have available. To achieve this, simply mix petroleum jelly (the common brand is Vaseline) with your desired eyeshadow colour using a lip brush. I would recommend using a matte eyeshadow pigment for this.
5. LIPSTICK AS AN EYESHADOW BASE
This hack is quite easy. It involves using a lipstick, usually a liquid one, as a base for your eyeshadow look. The trick with this is blending with your fingers first before using a brush and starting out with a little quantity and applying more as you deem fit. Lipsticks can serve as a perfect base as well for a smokey eye makeup look as seen below. The one I used here is Classic 24 hours lipstick in shade duke. It is a dark purple colour but since I wasn’t going for that, I set it with a lighter purple eyeshadow shade.
For now, these are my top favourite hacks and with how evolving the world is, I really can’t wait to find out what other tricks people are going to discover soon! Thanks for reading this far and stay blessed x
Have you ever tried any of these hacks? How did it work for you? Please leave a comment below, thanks!
I don’t know how I just discovered the powder before Foundation routine. But I’m not sure I’m doing it right. I’ll be trying these other hacks out though. Thank you for the hacks.

I just discovered it as well. It’s easy, just use a brush or sponge and apply the powder (I recommend sacha buttercup or black opal finishing powder) all over your face before foundation. I attached a link to Dimma Umeh’s video, you can check that out as well. Thanks dear!!
